The Last Train from Paris

Last night we had a fun murder mystery dinner with a few friends. We purchased a "murder mystery game" online and have had it for almost a year now. We wanted to invite all our friends, but unfortunately there were only 8 roles. The next game we'll arrange for more roles so we can invite more people!

The Task:

We were all guests on the last train leaving Paris before the Nazi's occupation on June 14, 1940. Each of us was invited by a mysterious person to join on the train. This person it turns out was murdered shortly after the train left Paris. We were all to try and solve the mystery a la Orient Express.

The story was a bit complicated at times, but over all a lot of fun. I cannot reveal who the murderer was, as I may be passing this game on to someone else to use...but let's just say it was a shocker! We'll definitely be doing another murder mystery party in the future, but like I said we'll try to get one with more characters. Felipe says he may try his hand at writing one himself, so maybe if he starts now it can be ready by next halloween ;)

And if You Threw a Party...

Today we had a Golden Girls "Marathon" (A whopping 8 episodes) with a few friends. A little get together to honor the late great Bea Arthur! Sammi made a delicious cheesecake (a golden girl favorite) to enjoy and Emily brought over a variety of yummy baked goods.

After some time watching golden girls, we moved on to pizza and a game. Tonight we decided to play In a Pickle. The game involves what can fit into what. Each person either has to place a card down that is smaller than or bigger than the cards on the table. For instance: There was a bone IN the test tube, and the test tube was IN the school. and so on. When any row has four cards, the person to place the fourth has started a "pickle" round. Each player then gets one more chance to put down something that the biggest card can fit into. Whoever places the biggest card wins the stack. Whoever reaches a certain amount of stacks first, wins the game. It's fun when hearing people try to explain how they think France can fit in a castle (it can if it's a map of France!). Here are a few of our combinations (hint: the card at the top of the stack is supposed to fit in the next card and so on.)






We had quite a bit of fun making up the stories!

This evening we had Laurence and Sylvain over for one last chicken dinner and Settlers night (at least for the time being). Soon they will both return to their home in Paris...and we'll have a much longer commute to visit with them!

It's really been a fantastic time getting to share New York City with them, and experiencing the city as four newcomers together. and I can't tell you how many games of settlers and how many chicken dinners we've had!...I'm going to miss them and the fun nights we had.

We'll look forward to the next time they come back to visit so we can play another game, or maybe have one of our picnics in Central Park. Until then....a big welcome home for them and safe travels!
