Snapshots of a Special Day

Portrait

I've posted several photos into my flickr photostream, so you can go there and take a look if you already haven't. I'm looking forward to making an album of photos from our wedding and reception(s) - although it will probably wait until after the Spain leg of the tour.

I will be posting more photos to Flickr, including the family portraits and some more shots from the reception...but I only had time for a few last night :D So keep your eyes open.

If you want me to make a print of any photo, or want it without the watermark, just let me know and I can do it for you. Of course the photos on the web get due credit to our great photographer Molly Michel at www.mthreestudio.com (you can see our Wedding Slide show here)

Also a picture of our invites - which I just had a ton of fun designing!

Art Night - Linocut

Tonight we had another art night, and I'm super excited about it! I was talking with my friend Cord last week about our art nights and prints came up. So I started thinking about the time we did linoleum prints in art class way back and wondered what it would be like to do another one. So today Felipe and I stopped at Lee's Art Shop on 57th Street and picked up the supplies we would need. it was a bit involved, but in the end I was very happy with how it turned out.

Friday Afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Today I met my friend Cord at the Metropolitan Museum of Art after work. We spent a couple of hours walking around the museum's current special exhibitions: J.M.W. Turner's paintings, Framing a Century: Master Photographers from 1840-1940, Super Heroes: Fashion and Fantasy, and Jeff Koons: On the Rooftop.

Here's a little visual aid (a video from an exhibit and a video from the rooftop overlooking Central Park):

This exhibit was really nice - it had a bunch of the actual costumes used in the movies (including most recently from Iron Man and The Dark Knight), but additionally it had designer interpretations of the costumes as well. The video is of a cool hologram of Clark Kent/Superman. Unfortunately the hologram can't do much more than change back and forth...but I thought it was a neat idea.

The rooftop was BEAUTIFUL, again reaffirming my love for Central Park. When Cord and I arrived at the museum they had the rooftop garden listed as "closed" on account of the on-again/off-again rain we'd been getting all day here. By the time we'd visited the other exhibits, the rain had cleared leaving us with nothing but blue sky and sunset to enjoy on the roof (which they re-opened).

The sculptures by Koons were fun and colorful. The "Balloon Dog" was my favorite, although I also really like the idea behind the "Coloring Book" sculpture - this being the big blob of almost translucent looking color at the very beginning of the video. This sculpture was supposed to be the crazy color filling a coloring book outline of Piglet from Winnie the Pooh (with the outline removed). Clever.

Unexpected Rhythm

I'm trying to catch up on my videos...

This was taken at the Coffee Shop in Union Square. Felipe and I went there with his parents for lunch/brunch towards the end of their visit. I happened to see his mom beating along to the music, and his dad join her shortly after. I guess you could say it was infectious...not that we saw people dancing around the restaurant.

The only drawback to this infectious music, this driving beat....was the fact that it was so loud. So loud that our waitress did not hear the order for Felipe's dad, and so we were served one plate short. Somewhat disappointing.
